Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions

Goals to improve care and healthcare team performance are important for advancing effectiveness and efficiencies of healthcare. Educators can serve a vital role in the quality and performance improvement process.  This session will delve into the basics of quality and performance improvement and explore strategies to incorporate education into improvement processes to help advance goals, measure improvements and demonstrate value. Participants will practice designing and implementing strategies to solve problems based on scenarios faced in care and community settings that will consider collaboration, intervention design, coaching and tracking progress and outcomes.

  2. Develop strategies to integrate education with quality/performance improvement.
  3. Highlight best practices for collaboration, implementation and tracking.

Faculty

Steven Kawczak, PhD, CHCP, FACEHP, Director Cleveland Clinic

Dr. Kawczak directs Professional Development at Cleveland Clinic, where he leads the centers of Continuing Medical Education, International Medical Education, Scientific Publications and the Simulation Center. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic's Lerner College of Medicine. He has been active in CME for over twenty years, implementing educational collaborations globally, developing training for education planners and directing educational program design, accreditation and management. His areas of interest include CME and quality improvement, issues of bias in medical education and the humanities and medicine, specifically on cultural approaches to end of life care. Dr. Kawczak is a Past-President of the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions, the global society for continuing education professionals, and a surveyor for the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education

Bethany Frampton, MA, Department Manager ClevelandClinic

Bethany Frampton, MA, is department manager with the Cleveland Clinic Center for Continuing Education. Her background is in educational planning for both online and live education, new media, and organizational and interpersonal relationships research. With a background in non-profits, higher education, and medical innovation, she uses this skill set to develop and manage full scope live and live streaming virtual conferences, internet enduring educational activities, and quality improvement projects, as well as utilizes her skill set in new technology to create unique educational programs and assist in leading the Center through system integrations. In addition to managing educational activities, as a department manager, she manages a team of project managers who provide fundraising, multimedia and CME event planning for Cleveland Clinic and partners with other medical and educational organizations to design and deliver CME programs.

Molly Mooney, CHCP, Administrative Director, Cleveland Clinic

Molly Mooney is the Administrative Director for the Cleveland Clinic Center for Continuing Education. Molly is responsible for leading a team of teams that includes CE Production, Accreditation and MOC, Operations and Global CE. The Center manages the ABMS Portfolio Program and supports Quality Improvement efforts throughout the global Cleveland Clinic enterprise. In July 2021, the Center for Continuing Education was awarded Joint Accreditation with Commendation.

Amanda Hall, Department Manager, Cleveland Clinic

Amanda Hall is a Department Manager with the Cleveland Clinic Center for Continuing Education. In her role, Amanda oversees the accreditation services team to ensure quality and compliance of activities and identify opportunities for continuous program improvement. She works closely with Cleveland Clinic's Quality and Patient Safety Institute to support QI education throughout the enterprise and helps manage the ABMS Portfolio Program. As part of the CE leadership team, Amanda also works to forward key initiatives including advancing interprofessional education and systems integration.
